About Game

The Crypt Demo

Six portraits head The Crypt’s pay table, and the best of them returns 2.5x for a full six-reel run. The cap on the same game is 27,000x. Everything between those two figures is made of ways and multipliers, which is what makes this horror slot read so oddly at first glance. Play starts at 4,096 ways and stretches to 46,656 once the xWays symbols expand the reels.

The Crypt Features

Cascading xWays Reels

Winning symbols explode, and new ones drop in, so one spin can pay several times over. The xWays symbol is a mystery tile that holds two or three copies of a single symbol, and it can stretch its reel up to six symbols high. Land enough of them, and the 4,096 ways at rest climb towards 46,656, on a six-by-four grid drawn from 15 symbols.

The xNudge Wild

A hooded reaper drops to the bottom of its reel, adds +1x to the win multiplier for every step it travels, then covers the reel completely. With an xWays expansion stretching that reel, the climb reaches x6. Two Wilds on one spin add their multipliers together, so x3 and x1 pay as x4. The reaper lands on reels 2 to 5 only, substitutes for everything except the Moon Scatter, and does not appear in the pay table.

xBet at Triple Stake

xBet charges 3x the stake and makes Resurrection Spins more than 5 times as likely to appear. Symbol payouts are untouched, so the extra outlay buys only frequency. The return barely moves for it, a large shift in frequency for a rounding-level change in the figure.

Resurrection Spins

Three Moon Scatters award 10 spins, and each additional Scatter adds three more. Every initial cascade guarantees an xWays symbol, so the reels start tall, and from there the round improves itself. Every fourth winning cascade turns one portrait symbol Wild and awards two extra spins, and those Wilds stay until the spins run out. Any win on the highest-paying portrait adds +1x to that symbol, though a cascade paying on that portrait alone raises the multiplier without converting a Wild.

The Studio’s Buy Prices

The studio lists four entry prices for this game: 100x for 10 spins, 200x for 13 spins, 500x for 16 spins, and a 225x lucky draw for spins 10-19. The studio’s full catalogue on the site leans hard on these x-prefixed systems.

How to Play

Reading the Header Figure

The Crypt reels at 4,096 ways with a single purple Moon Scatter on reel 4
Six reels at four rows with the header holding at 4,096 ways, and one Moon Scatter on reel 4, two short of the 10-spin round. The portraits on screen pay from three reels, the best of them 2.5x across all six.

The header figure, not the pay table, is what to follow here, because it moves from spin to spin. Every way a matching run occupies pays that symbol’s value once more, with each way settling on its best combination. Matching symbols must begin on reel 1 and run left to right on adjacent reels, and because there are six reels, the pay table runs to six tiers rather than five. An expanded reel adds no payline; it raises the ways total, and that is how 4,096 becomes 5,120, 6,400, or more inside one cascade.

The Booster Button and Bet Grid

A round starts from the circular spin button, or from the spacebar once that toggle is switched on. The coin button opens the bet grid, a set of fixed tiles rather than a slider, so stake changes move in steps. The red lightning button is the Nolimit Booster, and xBet is armed there; once it is on, the charge applies to every spin until you disable it. Settings offer music, sound effects, and the spacebar toggle, with no turbo control provided. A history panel replays finished rounds and sorts them by time or by win.

Bets and RTP

Bets start at €0.20 and top out at €100. The demo returns 96.05%, and xBet uses its own 96.00% version of that figure. Lower certified versions exist beneath the headline number, and the spread between the highest and the lowest is roughly nine points, so which version you are given matters more here than on most six-reel releases. The maximum payout is 27,000x, and past it “the game round will end” with 27,000x awarded.

The Crypt Paytable

Six portraits head the table, and the drop from the first of them to the sixth is small, 2.5x against 0.9x for a full six reels. The card ranks beneath them are flatter still, and every row pays from three reels upward.

Symbol 3 4 5 6
Portrait 1 0.35x 0.8x 1.5x 2.5x
Portrait 2 0.25x 0.4x 1x 1.5x
Portrait 3 0.2x 0.3x 0.75x 1.25x
Portrait 4 0.2x 0.3x 0.6x 1.1x
Portrait 5 0.2x 0.25x 0.5x 1x
Portrait 6 0.2x 0.25x 0.5x 0.9x
A 0.15x 0.2x 0.4x 0.75x
K 0.15x 0.2x 0.4x 0.7x
Q 0.15x 0.2x 0.4x 0.6x
J 0.1x 0.15x 0.3x 0.6x
10 0.1x 0.15x 0.3x 0.5x
9 0.1x 0.15x 0.3x 0.5x

Neither the xNudge Wild nor the Moon Scatter carries a pay value.

Ultimate Slots Verdict

Almost none of The Crypt's return is in the symbols and nearly all of it is in a bonus that improves while it runs. Resurrection Spins add Wilds, extra spins, and a rising multiplier on the top portrait, and the 27,000x cap is reachable only through that compounding. At 96.05% with a 24.65% hit rate, the stretch between features is long, and xBet exists because of it.

4/5 Excellent

What We Like

  • Resurrection Spins improve as they run, adding Wilds, +2 spins, and a rising multiplier on the top portrait
  • xWays expansion moves the ways count from 4,096 to as high as 46,656
  • xNudge Wild multipliers add together, so x3 and x1 pay as x4
  • xBet gives a clearly priced route to the bonus at 3x the stake

What Could Be Better

  • 24.65% of spins pay, and cascades mean many of those land near 0.2x
  • One Resurrection Spins round per 328 spins on average, without xBet
  • The top portrait pays 2.5x for a full six reels, so the symbols alone carry very little of the return

Detailed Review

Our Crypt Demo Experience

This rates 4.0 for what happens inside Resurrection Spins, not for anything in the symbol values. A round that hands out a Wild and two extra spins on every fourth winning cascade, and stacks +1x onto the top portrait each time it pays, compounds in a way few free-spin modes bother to.

The case against is arrival rate. Resurrection Spins average one appearance per 328 spins, and 24.65% of spins pay anything at all, which on a cascading game means plenty of those payments are 0.2x and finished. xBet at 3x the stake is the honest answer to that, priced so it can never be a bargain.

Artwork carries the long stretches better than the numbers do. Six decomposing portraits over engraved card ranks, a purple moon smoking inside a cloud, a crow on a dead branch behind the frame. For a September 2023 release, it has aged well and is a funnier game than its 27,000x cap suggests. Dead Canary works the same dark register for the studio. A sequel, The Crypt 2, followed in March 2026.

In free play, the ways counter is the thing to watch, climbing past 5,120 and 6,400 as reels stretch under an xWays drop. That counter, rather than the pay table, is what this review rates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because the return is built from ways and multipliers rather than symbol values. A six-reel run of the top portrait pays 2.5x, but that same symbol can complete thousands of ways at once when xWays stretches the reels, and an xNudge Wild can multiply the result by up to x6. The 27,000x maximum comes from stacking those effects, never from one large symbol pay.
Every fourth winning cascade turns one portrait symbol Wild and awards two extra spins, and those Wilds stay for the spins that remain. Each win on the highest paying portrait adds +1x to that symbol. Three Moon Scatters open The Crypt's round with 10 spins, and every additional Scatter adds three more.
It charges 3x the stake per spin and makes the bonus more than five times likelier to trigger. Symbol payouts are untouched, so the extra cost buys frequency only, and the return figure moves by a rounding margin.
Three. A matching run has to begin on reel 1 and continue across adjacent reels, and it pays at three, four, five or six reels, which is why The Crypt's table carries four tiers rather than the usual three. Each way that run occupies pays the symbol value once, so a tall xWays reel multiplies the count rather than the value.
