About Game

Big Bass Return to the Races Demo by Pragmatic Play

12 cards, face down, and you turn one over. That single pick decides whether the free spins you have just triggered are the ordinary sort or the Golden Cup sort, where the reels drop every ordinary symbol and return with nothing but money, wilds, and gaps. Anyone who has played Big Bass Secrets of the Golden Lake knows the move already. Reel Kingdom has taken it to a racecourse, swapped the fisherman for a bearded punter with a fistful of betting slips, and changed nothing underneath. The cards are still the best part of it, and they are the only part of the round you get any say over.

Slot Bonus Features

The Twelve Cards

Three scatters grant 10 free spins, four bring 15, and five 20, but a card decides what kind of round those spins become. The game deals 12 face down and asks you to pick one. A Bonus card means the regular free spins, and a Golden Cup card means the special round. The pick is a blind guess with nothing to read, and the moment works because of that.

Wild Collection Levels

Every fourth wild collected retriggers the round, adds 10 more spins, and raises the money collection multiplier. Level two multiplies by 2x, level three by 3x, and level four by 10x. After the fourth level, no more retriggers arrive. The round is either a quick 10 spins or a long climb with a 10x waiting at the end of it, and there is very little in between. Getting to the third level is common enough to feel reachable; getting to the fourth is the part that makes the difference.

Scatter Respins

The main game includes a built-in consolation. When two scatters land without a third, the reels holding them can move down one position while the others respin, or a third scatter can drop into a random position after the spin settles. Neither happens every time, but both can turn a dead near miss into a live one often enough that two scatters stop feeling like bad news.

With the Ante Bet running, the game can also drop a third in as a straight feature award, and the spin it arrives on pays nothing for lines.

Golden Cup Reels

In the Golden Cup round, the ordinary symbols fade away and the grid empties. What returns is a set of special reels with money symbols and wilds on them, and blanks in every other position. You get 10 spins, and every wild that lands collects the value of every money symbol showing. Wilds stay collected until the round finishes, so the board fills as the spins go by instead of resetting each time.

The Punter in Silks

There’s no wild in normal play. The bearded man with the betting slips only appears once the free spins begin, and then he can land on any reel. That is the Big Bass frame doing what it has always done, and it leaves this slot as a plain 10-line game in racing colours until the scatters do their job.

Two Buy Prices

Big Bass Return to the Races buy free spins prices and ante bet rules
The two buy plaques read $200.00 and $540.00 at the $2.00 bet, which is 100x and 270x, and the Ante Bet toggle above them is switched to OFF, the setting that keeps both buys available.

Two plaques appear beside the reels. Pay 100x your total bet, and you buy the free spins with the card pick still in front of you, so the ordinary round remains a real possibility. Pay 270x, and the Golden Cup round starts directly, with no cards involved.

The Ante Bet is the third door, and it closes the other two. Turning it on costs half a stake again, raises the natural trigger rate and the scatter count, and disables both buy options while it stays on.

How to Play

The Champagne Bucket

One symbol behaves differently from everything else here. The champagne bucket pays from two of a kind, whereas every other picture symbol needs three, so a pair on a line is a small win rather than a blank. It’s also the top payer at 200x for five, which on a 10-line game is a modest number by the standards of the studio. Below it, the money case, beer, binoculars, and race cards fill the middle, and the A, K, Q, J, and 10 royals underneath pay so little that the 10 lines exist mainly to bring scatters and money symbols into view.

Money Values

Money symbols are jockeys on horses, and each one takes a random value at every spin, from 2x the total bet up to 5000x. They appear during normal play and do nothing there. The value pays only when a wild collects it during free spins, so the 10 lines can feel quiet beforehand. If a jockey is carrying a big number while no feature is running, that’s the game working as intended, and it’s the part of the Big Bass format that players either enjoy or cannot stand.

$94 on show, but none of it heading to the balance.

Big Bass Return to the Races RTP

The return is 96.07% however you play it. Ante on, ante off, or either buy, the figure doesn’t move, though some sites run lower versions at 95.07% and 94.07%.

High volatility is how the game rates itself, and nothing in play suggests otherwise. Big Bass Secrets of the Golden Lake carries the same return and the same two-price buy, so choosing between the two is a question of scenery rather than maths.

Ultimate Slots Verdict

A reskin that gets by on the quality of what it reskins. The 12-card pick and the two-price buy are still the strongest bonus setup in the Big Bass family, and the racecourse art carries them nicely. Anyone who's played Golden Lake will find nothing new here, but nothing has been spoiled either.

3.5/5 Very Good

✓ What We Like

  • The 12-card pick makes the trigger itself a moment, and it costs nothing to try in the demo
  • Two buy prices, so the special reels are available without waiting on a card
  • The two-scatter respin gives the main game something to do between features

✗ What Could Be Better

  • Nothing here is new; Golden Lake did all of it first, and the racecourse is the only change
  • No wild until the free spins begin, so a quiet run is 10 lines of royals

Detailed Review

How it Compares

Green turf, blue rails, and a bearded punter in a flat cap, all of it drawn in the same cheerful house style this series has used for years. Underneath the paddock, this is Big Bass Secrets of the Golden Lake in racing colours, and the fair question is whether a reskin earns a page of its own.

Mostly, it does, because the thing being copied is the strongest bonus arrangement the family has. The card pick gives the trigger a second beat, and the Golden Cup reels change what the round actually is rather than bolting a multiplier onto it. Reel Kingdom had no need to improve on that, and it hasn’t tried.

The interesting number is the gap between the two buy prices. Paying 2.7 times as much doesn’t buy a better return, since both routes settle on the same figure. What it buys is certainty. The cheaper option leaves you holding a card that might reveal a regular round, and whether that’s worth the difference depends entirely on how much you dislike the regular round. In free play, you can try both and find out for nothing.

It arrived in February 2025, the third racecourse Big Bass on the site. Big Bass Day at the Races got there first with a different bonus, and Raceday Repeat took another run at the same theme, so the Big Bass series now fields more horses than some racing slots manage. The skin is the reason to choose this one over its twin, which is a thin reason, and an honest one.

If Golden Lake is already in your history, this review is a formality. If it isn’t, this is a good version of a bonus worth meeting, and the racecourse dressing is more fun than another lake.

Frequently Asked Questions

A card pick before the round starts. The game deals 12 face-down cards and asks you to choose one; a Bonus card gives the regular free spins, and a Golden Cup card gives the special reels. Buying the round at the higher price skips the pick and starts the Golden Cup version outright.
It buys certainty rather than value. Both buy routes carry the same RTP, so the extra outlay pays for a guaranteed special round instead of a card that might reveal the regular one. If the regular round is the outcome you want to rule out, the higher price is the only way to do it.
Yes. The game caps any round at 5,000x the bet, and once it reaches that figure it stops immediately, the win pays, and any remaining spins go unplayed. One top-value money symbol collected at the fourth retrigger level can reach the cap on its own.
