What’s Inside The Slot

The music sets the pace from the first spin, a slow, dusty Western tune that idles along while Smokey stands guard to the right of the reels, hat low, revolver holstered. Then a winning cluster lands, and everything changes gear at once. The track picks up, coins scatter, and the grid comes alive in a way the laid-back intro didn’t warn you about. Le Cowboy hands Smokey the raccoon a revolver, and Wilds don’t just substitute here. They transform into loaded Revolver Cylinders and start shooting at the grid. It’s a more immediate, more visceral version of the reveal sequence the series has always been built on, and it suits the setting perfectly.

Feature Breakdown

Super Cascades

Land a winning cluster of 5 or more connected matching symbols and the cascade that follows is more aggressive than a standard tumble. Every symbol of the winning type is removed from the grid, not just the ones inside the winning cluster. New symbols drop in to fill the gaps, and wins are reassessed. This keeps chain reactions alive longer and clears space fast, which matters a lot in a game where empty positions quickly fill with the Special symbols that do the real work.

Revolver Reveals

When a Wild symbol lands as part of a winning cluster, it transforms into a Revolver Cylinder loaded with between 2 and 6 shots. After all wins and cascades have settled, the cylinder fires at random grid positions, with each hit revealing a Special symbol. If more than one Revolver Cylinder is on the grid, they fire in order from top to bottom, left to right. A position can be shot more than once, upgrading a Bronze Coin to Silver on a second hit, and Silver to Gold on a third. Diamonds, Gold Clovers, Loot Bags, and Reload symbols cannot be upgraded once revealed.

Special symbols the revolver can uncover: Bronze Coins (1x–4x bet), Silver Coins (5x–20x), Gold Coins (25x–100x), Diamonds (150x–500x), Green Clovers, Gold Clovers, Loot Bags, and Reload symbols. If a Reload symbol appears after all shots are fired, it reactivates all Revolver Cylinders with a fresh set of shots. The sequence continues until no new Reload symbols appear.

Once all shooting is done, the collection sequence plays out. Green Clovers multiply all adjacent Coins and Loot Bags by 2x to 20x. Gold Clovers apply that same multiplier range to every Coin and Loot Bag on the entire grid. Loot Bags then activate top to bottom and left to right, collecting the values of all Coins, Diamonds, and other Loot Bags on the grid. After each Loot Bag activates, any remaining shot positions reveal new Special symbols and the process repeats until no new activations occur. The final total of all Coins and Loot Bags is multiplied by the bet to calculate the payout.

High Noon Saloon Bonus

Land 3 FS scatter symbols simultaneously to reach the Bonus Gamble screen. From here, you can play 10 free spins in the High Noon Saloon or Gamble for a chance to upgrade. The setting shifts too — the reels move inside a saloon, all wooden walls, mounted buffalo heads, and shelves of bottles behind the grid. High Noon Saloon keeps the standard play setup with an increased chance of Revolver Cylinders triggering. Landing 2 FS symbols during the bonus adds 2 extra spins; 3 symbols adds 4.  If you choose to Gamble, the game cuts to the Shooting Range view where a revolver fires at 4 targets. Each target reveals a symbol, land the bonus symbol, and you’re into Trail of Trickery, or collect a cash prize from the other outcomes. The Gamble option can be used once per bonus trigger and once more after a bonus symbol lands.

Trail of Trickery Bonus

Four FS symbols land you here, or you can use a bonus buy-in. The same 10 free spins apply with the same retrigger rules, but Trail of Trickery adds a Bullet Collector displayed outside the grid. Every win during the bonus adds one bullet to the collector. On the last free spin, after all Revolver Cylinders and Reload symbols have activated, Smokey fires every collected bullet at the grid. Each shot position reveals a Coin, Diamond, Clover, or Loot Bag symbol, and the full reveal sequence plays out from there. FS symbols cannot land while the Bullet Collector is firing.

A Gamble option is available here too, with a revolver firing across 8 possible outcomes. It can produce an upgrade to Pistols at Dawn, or cash prizes ranging from 5x up to 500x bet.

Pistols at Dawn (Hidden Epic Bonus)

Five FS symbols in standard play is the only path in. There is no buy route to this mode. The Bullet Collector from Trail of Trickery is still present, but here it’s progressive. It starts at 5 bullets and fires on every free spin once all Revolver Cylinders and Reload symbols have activated, rather than just the last. After each activation, the collector resets to its value before firing and continues collecting from that point. Silver Coins are the lowest coin type available in this mode. FS symbols cannot land while the Bullet Collector is active.

Bonus Buy

Four options are available. BonusHunt FeatureSpins (3x bet) makes each spin five times more likely to trigger a bonus. Wild West FeatureSpins (75x bet) guarantees at least 2 Wild symbols land per spin. High Noon Saloon (65x bet) buys direct access to that bonus round. Trail of Trickery (250x bet) buys direct access, including the Bullet Collector. Buying High Noon Saloon or Trail of Trickery carries a 96.33% RTP when not gambling. It decreases slightly with each gamble attempt, so the numbers favour taking the spins over attempting the upgrade.

How to Play

Key Demo Info

Le Cowboy runs on a 6-reel, 5-row grid with a cluster pays format. There are no fixed paylines. Wins form when 5 or more identical symbols connect horizontally or vertically anywhere on the grid, and only the largest connecting cluster counts per symbol type. After every win, Super Cascades removes all matching symbols of that type from the grid (not just those in the cluster itself) and new symbols drop in. This continues until no new wins form.

Bets run from €0.05 to €40 per spin, a narrower top end than most Hacksaw releases. The RTP confirmed in the in-game paytable is 96.28%. Alternative lower configurations exist at some operators, so the paytable screen in the free play version will confirm which is active. Volatility is medium throughout standard play, though the individual bonus buy options are rated high volatility.

Ultimate Slots Verdict

Le Cowboy's big moments don't wait for luck to drop the right symbol. A Wild landing in a winning cluster picks up a gun and starts shooting at the grid, each shot revealing coins, multipliers, and collectors. It's a more immediate, more satisfying trigger than most collect-and-reveal slots manage, and it suits the setting perfectly. Stack that against a Bullet Collector that builds across an entire Trail of Trickery bonus and detonates on the final spin, and this is a slot that earns its medium volatility rating in the best way. Frequent enough action to stay engaged, with a top end that justifies the session.

✓ What We Like

  • Revolver Reveals is the most theme-cohesive reveal system in the series. The setup fits the setting rather than feeling bolted on, and the first-person Shooting Range view during the Trail of Trickery Gamble is a well-executed moment.
  • The gamble ladder between bonus tiers adds a meaningful choice. Trail of Trickery is a noticeably better bonus than High Noon Saloon, and the decision to risk the upgrade carries real weight.
  • Smokey's character animations give the game a personality that most cartoon slots don't bother with.
  • Medium volatility throughout standard play means the session sustains well. Winning clusters appear regularly enough that Revolver Cylinders aren't rare events.
  • 25,000x max win is the highest in the Le series to date, and Pistols at Dawn (where the Bullet Collector fires on every spin rather than just the last) is a credible path to the upper end.

✗ What Could Be Better

  • The €40 max bet is notably low for a Hacksaw release. Higher-stakes players will find the top end restrictive.
  • Trail of Trickery at 250x the bet is a significant outlay for a medium-volatility bonus round. Our session returned roughly double the buy-in, but the feature can and does run cold.
  • Pistols at Dawn has no buy path, which is the right creative call, but it means the game's best mode can go an entire session without appearing.

Detailed Review

Our Take

The first thing you notice is the pace. Smokey stands to the right of the reels, looking completely unimpressed. He fidgets occasionally, scratches himself with his revolver, and he occasionally draws the gun, holding it up as it slowly wilts and droops at the muzzle with a rubbery cartoon sound. His expression shifts from shock to determination; he re-holsters and draws again, snapping the gun back into shape and smirking. This entire sequence unfolds suddenly and without warning.

Standard play delivered a consistent rhythm. Winning clusters triggered the cascade reasonably often, and Revolver Cylinders appeared with enough regularity that the reveal sequence never felt like a rare event. The energy shifts noticeably when a win lands. The track picks up, coins scatter, and suddenly the grid is busy in a way the slow intro music didn’t prepare you for.

We then checked out the The Trail of Trickery buy at €500 (€2 bet), and taking the gamble on entry triggered the Shooting Range view which produced a 5x cash prize rather than the Pistols at Dawn upgrade. A second run played straight through, and the location shift is noticeable. Canyon backdrop, cacti to the left, Smokey now wearing a red bandana. The Bullet Collector built across the free spins and on the final spin the collected bullets fired at the grid, reveals accumulated, and the round closed with a Mega Win of €1,052.40 from 12 spins. At a €500 buy-in, that’s approximately double the stake returned. A reasonable result for a high-volatility feature session, and the delivery of it felt earned. Run the demo a few times before committing to the buy. Watching how the Bullet Collector builds in Trail of Trickery makes the final spin hit differently when you understand what’s been accumulating.

Within Hacksaw’s Le series, Le Cowboy sits closest in spirit to Le Bandit. Chaotic energy, strong character work, a reveal system that builds genuine anticipation. Le Zeus took a different structural path with Mystery Reels and fixed paylines instead of clusters. Le Fisherman is the more considered, lower-variance cluster entry of the two recent releases. Le Bunny shares the cluster-and-collect engine but leans into a lighter tone, with Jackpot Eggs adding fixed-prize potential on top. Le Cowboy is sharper, louder, and gives Smokey more room to perform. For anyone coming in fresh, it’s a strong starting point for the series. For returning players, it’s the shot in the arm that the formula needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

When a Reload symbol is revealed by a Revolver Cylinder shot, it reactivates all Revolver Cylinders on the grid with a fresh set of shots and the firing sequence restarts. This can chain multiple rounds of shooting in a single reveal sequence, and is the main route to large symbol counts before the collection phase begins. Once revealed, a Reload symbol cannot be shot again.
Both feature the Bullet Collector, but the timing is different. In Trail of Trickery, bullets accumulate across all free spins and fire once on the last spin, after all Revolver Cylinders and Reloads have activated. In Pistols at Dawn, the collector starts at 5 bullets, fires on every free spin once Cylinders and Reloads are resolved, then resets to its pre-fire value and starts collecting again immediately. Every spin ends with the Bullet Collector firing rather than just the last one, and Silver Coins are the lowest coin type available in this mode
No. Every gamble outcome awards something. The revolver lands on one of 4 results: an upgrade to Trail of Trickery, or a cash prize across the other three outcomes ranging from 1x up to 100x your bet. Taking the gamble and missing the upgrade still pays out a cash prize rather than ending the round empty-handed.
The in-game rules confirm this directly. The Trail of Trickery buy carries a 96.33% RTP when not gambling. Gambling once drops it to 96.20%. The upgrade to Pistols at Dawn is valuable, but the probability-weighted return on the gamble slightly favours taking the free spins over risking the attempt.
The Shooting Range appears whenever you choose to Gamble rather than take the free spins in both High Noon Saloon and Trail of Trickery. The difference is the number of targets on the board: High Noon Saloon shows 4 targets corresponding to its 4 possible outcomes, while Trail of Trickery shows 8 targets for its 8 possible outcomes. It does not appear during the free spins themselves.
