About Game

Nolimit City’s Buffalo Hunter Demo

Line numbers 1 to 40 are carved down both sides of a wooden reel frame, with a 5×4 prairie at dusk behind them. The Buffalo Hunter demo puts that format first, because this September 2020 slot is a Nolimit City game on 40 fixed lines, with no xMechanics on its reels. Its value is stored in the medallion column left of the reels. Only an original Buffalo feeds it, and every 5 energies collected in the free spins turn another animal into a Buffalo or add +1x to one, toward x5. Collect 20 in Stampede Super Bonus, and every symbol becomes a Buffalo at x5.

Slot Bonus Features

Dreamcatcher and Totem

The Dreamcatcher is the Wild. The carved totem is the Scatter, and 3 or more start the free spins. The pay table lists no line win for it, so its value is the round it opens.

Energy Only the Originals Give

The Buffalo is the top-paying animal, level with the Wild, and every feature routes through it, which is what puts it among our buffalo slots for more than its art. A Buffalo made by a transformation brings no energy, so a board of converted Buffaloes adds nothing to the count shown in the column on the left.

Free Spins

Four small animal medallions ring the buffalo on the Buffalo Horde badge, with a +2 tag above it and the line “Collect the energy to turn all animals into the mighty Buffalo.”

3, 4 or 5 Totems

With 3 totems, the round is 8 free spins, and with 4, it is 10, each with a choice of Buffalo Horde or Prairie Multipliers. Five totems start 12 spins of Stampede Super Bonus instead.

Buffalo Horde

Every 5 energies turn one animal into the Buffalo and add +2 spins. The game’s own rules name this as the mode with the higher return, and the line table backs that choice, since each conversion replaces an animal worth 6.25x to 20x for five with the 50x Buffalo.

Prairie Multipliers

Every 5 energies add +1x to an animal, up to x5, add +2 spins, and lift the Buffalo by +1x per animal upgraded. In the rules’ worked example, the first 5 give the pronghorn x2, and the next 5 give the coyote x3 and raise the pronghorn to x3.

20 Energies in Stampede

Stampede Super Bonus uses both modes together for 12 spins. After 20 energies, every symbol on the reels turns into a Buffalo with an x5 multiplier. The game’s maximum win is 12,647x.

How to Play

40 Lines and a Spiral Stone

Buffalo Hunter reels showing a coyote line win with a Dreamcatcher Wild and a totem Scatter
A Dreamcatcher Wild on reel 3 completes a coyote line worth 0.75x, with a totem Scatter on reel 1 and the energy medallions stacked left of the line numbers.

The numbers carved into the frame on either side of the reels mark all 40 fixed lines, and that count stays at 40 whatever the bet. A combination counts when matching symbols run along a line across neighbouring reels from the first reel. Each line pays only its biggest combination, and every line that wins is paid. When a Dreamcatcher could finish more than one combination, the game counts it as whichever pays more. The glowing spiral stone is the Mystery symbol, and it reveals one of the paying symbols. The rules also use different reel setups for base play and for each bonus mode.

Game RTP

A total bet anywhere between €0.20 and €100 is shared across those same 40 lines, so a bigger bet raises what each line pays rather than adding lines. There is no booster to add to that price. The game’s theoretical RTP is 96.01%.

Slot Paytable

Four Buffaloes pay 5x and five pay 50x, after 2x for three, and the Dreamcatcher’s row is identical, a Wild that completes lines for every symbol except the totem. Below them come two pairs of animals: the eagle and cougar at 20x and 15x for five and the coyote and pronghorn at 7.5x and 6.25x. The card ranks form a flat band: 5x for five A or K, 3.75x for five Q, J, or 10, and 0.25x for three of any rank. Three pronghorns pay 0.5x, one step above those ranks, and the eagle’s 3.5x for four is the largest four-symbol pay below the Buffalo and the Wild.

Symbol 3 4 5
Dreamcatcher Wild 2x 5x 50x
Buffalo 2x 5x 50x
Eagle 1.5x 3.5x 20x
Cougar 1.25x 2x 15x
Coyote 0.75x 1.5x 7.5x
Pronghorn 0.5x 1.5x 6.25x
A 0.25x 1.25x 5x
K 0.25x 1.25x 5x
Q 0.25x 1x 3.75x
J 0.25x 1x 3.75x
10 0.25x 1x 3.75x

Ultimate Slots Verdict

Only original Buffaloes feed the energy count, and that count converts animals, lifts them toward x5, and, in Stampede Super Bonus, fills the board with x5 Buffaloes. The 40-line main game around it is plain, but the free spins make the demo worth trying.

Hits What we like

  • Only original Buffaloes add energy, so each one landing has a job beyond its line pay
  • Every 5 energies add +2 spins, so a free-spins round lasts longer as the count grows
  • Stampede Super Bonus turns every symbol into an x5 Buffalo after 20 energies
  • Buffalo and Dreamcatcher Wild both pay 50x for five on any of the 40 lines

Misses What could be better

  • Between free spins, the 40 lines offer a Mystery symbol and not much more
  • Q, J, and 10 pay 3.75x for five, and any rank pays 0.25x for three
  • The rules list no totem retrigger, so extra spins come only from energy

Detailed Review

Only the First Buffalo Counts

Buffalo Hunter rates well on one system, the energy count behind its free spins, and this review finds that the plain 40-line main game in front of it does little to drag the verdict down.

Each original Buffalo does two jobs, paying on its line and adding energy, while a converted Buffalo only pays. That rule stops Buffalo Horde from feeding itself, so the originals set the pace in all three modes. In Prairie Multipliers, the same originals lift the Buffalo by +1x for each animal they upgrade, so the top symbol climbs with the rest. Each step of 5 energies also adds +2 spins, tying the length of the round to the same count that upgrades the board. A round that goes well runs longer, and one that stalls gets nothing added to its 8, 10, or 12.

Stampede asks the most of that count. It starts with the most spins, 12, but its full board of x5 Buffaloes needs 20 energies, so it is the mode where originals landing early count for the most.

The column is also where the game plays on the eye. A board crowded with converted Buffaloes looks as if the count should be racing, yet the copies add nothing, and the next step still needs originals to land.

Simple Base Mechanics

Outside the free spins, there is less to discuss. The main game offers 40 fixed lines, a Mystery symbol, and card ranks that pay 0.25x for three, and the return split shows how much of the game is deferred. Of the 96.01% RTP, 47.11 comes from regular spins and 48.90 from the free spins, so more than half arrives in rounds that need 3 totems first. Stretches without them return little, and the 40 lines do not change that. Long quiet spells in the main game are normal here, and when the payoff comes, it comes inside a mode.

Duck Hunters, the studio’s other hunting game, is also built on a ladder of 3, 4, or 5 bonus symbols leading to escalating free-spin modes, and it has a 30,000x cap. Buffalo Hunter has the lower cap, but each of its modes uses the same Buffalo count, and for anyone choosing between the two, that count is the thing to try in free play.

Frequently Asked Questions

Only original Buffalo symbols add energy; a Buffalo created by a Buffalo Horde or Stampede transformation adds none. Every 5 energies collected trigger the mode's next step and add +2 spins.
In Buffalo Hunter, Buffalo Horde uses every 5 energies to turn one animal symbol into the Buffalo. Prairie Multipliers uses them to add +1x to an animal, up to x5, and lifts the Buffalo by +1x for each animal upgraded. Both add +2 spins per step, and 3 or 4 totems offer the choice.
After 20 energies, every symbol on the reels turns into a Buffalo with an x5 multiplier. Before that, each 5 energies in the 12-spin mode convert an animal, raise a multiplier, and add +2 spins at once.
