Thirty spins. Not a single hit. That was the opening stretch with 4 Pots Riches: Hold and Win during our demo session, and it tells you almost everything you need to know about this slot before you load it. Playson’s Irish Hold and Win entry is built for one thing, the bonus round, and the standard reels exist mainly to deliver you there.
When the bonus game eventually fired after spin 35, the Irish charm was all over it: a leprechaun Wild, pots of gold sitting above the reels, and a Hold and Win respin sequence that can escalate into a 5×5 Super Pot Bonus with a 10,000x Super Jackpot at the top. Get there, and it pays. Getting there is the challenge, and it’s not for the faint-hearted!
The core bonus round launches when Clover Bonus symbols land in the main game and one of the four Pots above the reels activates. Three re-spins are awarded at the start. Every new Bonus symbol that lands resets the count back to 3. The round continues until re-spins run out or all cells are filled. When it ends, the values of all Bonus symbols on the grid are totalled and paid out. Symbol values range from 1x to 12x your bet per coin.
The four pots sit above the reels and collect Clover Bonus Symbols by colour. Which pots activate determines which Pot Features are in play, and combinations of features can appear together within a single Bonus Game.
Each violet Clover Bonus that lands during the Bonus Game distributes multipliers of x2, x3, and x5 across three empty cells on the grid. If no empty unmultiplied cells remain, multipliers stack on existing ones and their values add up. After distributing multipliers, the violet symbol itself takes a random value of 2x to 10x your bet. All multipliers are applied to Bonus and Jackpot symbol values at the end of the round, before collection.
Each blue Clover Bonus in the Bonus Game sweeps up the values of all other symbols currently on the reels and adds them to its own value. Multipliers are applied to Bonus and Jackpot values before the Collect calculation runs.
Each red Clover Bonus awards one of the following at random. Options are the Mini Jackpot (15x), Minor Jackpot (30x), Major Jackpot (100x), or a high random cash value of 20x, 25x, 40x, 50x, or 75x your total bet.
A Golden Pot can appear during the Bonus Game and randomly transforms into a violet, red, or blue Clover Bonus. It either activates an additional pot feature or strengthens the one already running, adding an extra Clover Bonus to the grid in the process.
The Super Clover Bonus Symbol is the rarer trigger. It lands only during the main game and, when it does, gives a chance to launch the Super Pot Bonus Game. The reels expand from 5×3 to 5×5 by adding one empty row above and one below, creating a 25-cell field. The Super Pot Bonus starts with existing Bonus and Clover Bonus symbols pre-populated and comes with one or more random Pot Features (Multi, Mystery, or Collect, or a combination). Fill all 25 cells and you win the Super Jackpot of 10,000x your bet. Fill 15 cells (the 5×3 Grand Section) and you win the Grand Jackpot of 3,000x. The Super Clover Bonus itself receives a random value of 7x, 8x, 9x, or 10x during the round.
Four fixed jackpots are available inside the Bonus Game. Mini (15x), Minor (30x), and Major (100x) can appear randomly at any point during either bonus round. Grand (3,000x) requires filling 15 cells in the standard Bonus Game or the Grand Section in Super Pot mode. Super (10,000x) requires filling all 25 cells in the Super Pot Bonus Game only. Note that if all 25 cells are filled, only the Super Jackpot value is paid; individual symbol values are not added to it.
Two purchase options are available. A random Bonus Game with 1, 2, or 3 Pot Features costs 70x your bet. A random Super Pot Bonus Game with 1, 2, or 3 Pot Features costs 150x. Both are unavailable in the UK.
The Leprechaun Wild substitutes for all symbols except Bonus, Clover Bonus, and Jackpot symbols. It lands only on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5, and can appear stacked.
Standard wins here require matching symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost position, starting from three-of-a-kind. That is the conventional part of this slot. The paylines follow a traditional left-to-right format with 25 fixed lines. What makes the game unusual is how little those paylines matter. Paytable wins from regular combinations are modest, the hit rate is low, and the Wild on reels 2–5 only gets you so far. The real game starts when the Clover Bonus symbols land and a pot activates.
Bets run from €0.20 to €50.00 per spin. With high volatility and an RTP of 95.7% (shown in the info screen), this is a game that needs enough bankroll to survive dry spells (in our session, that meant 30+ consecutive empty spins before the first win landed). The Bonus Buy is available in most regions at 70x for the standard game or 150x for the Super Pot version; UK players will need to trigger organically.
Values at a £1.00 total bet. The card symbols (A, K, Q, J) share a single pay tier.
| Symbol | 3x | 4x | 5x |
|---|---|---|---|
| Horseshoe | 0.60 | 3.00 | 10.00 |
| Harp | 0.50 | 2.00 | 8.00 |
| Beer Mug | 0.40 | 1.50 | 6.00 |
| Money Bag | 0.30 | 1.00 | 4.00 |
| A / K / Q / J | 0.20 | 0.40 | 2.00 |
Those figures reflect a £1 stake. Even a five-of-a-kind Horseshoe win returns 10x, meaningful context when you consider the Bonus Game entry threshold. The bonus symbols themselves carry values of 1x–12x per coin, and the jackpot tiers (15x, 30x, 100x, 3,000x, 10,000x) are what this game is genuinely built around.
4 Pots Riches is a high-volatility Hold and Win slot that delivers almost nothing outside its bonus rounds and a great deal once you get there. The 95.7% RTP and the sparseness of standard play hits mean you need both patience and bankroll to reach the feature. When you do, the three Pot Features and the Super Pot escalation give it real depth.
The opening 30 spins in our demo produced nothing at all, which is striking even for a high-volatility Hold and Win title. Spin 35 broke the drought at 1.2x. Eventually the Super Bonus Game triggered and partially recovered the session, leaving 7 credits up after a significant deficit. That arc captures what this game is: long patience tests punctuated by payouts that can make the wait worthwhile, or occasionally just break even on. The honesty of that experience is worth noting in a free play context.
The visual execution is polished. Playson’s Irish theme is well-trodden territory at this point. The same harps, horseshoes, beer mugs and green backdrop appear in the 3 Pots series and across several competitor titles, but the production quality here is sharp and the pot animations during the bonus rounds give good visual feedback as the feature builds. The audio reuses cues from earlier Playson releases, which is noticeable if you’ve played those games.
Where 4 Pots Riches earns its place is in the Bonus Game structure itself. Three layered Pot Features, the ability for combinations to run simultaneously, the Golden Pot wildcard and the Super Clover escalation path all mean no two bonus rounds play out identically. That variety, and the genuine tension of watching the respin counter reset on each new symbol, is what Hold and Win players are here for. Everything else is just the price of entry.
4 Pots Riches is the third entry in Playson’s Irish Hold and Win slot line, and each release has moved the format in a distinct direction.
The reels are unapologetically Irish!
