About Game

Power of Thor Megaways Demo

A single row runs above reels 2, 3, 4, and 5, separate from the six reels beneath it, and it turns right to left while the rest of the grid drops downward. It usually carries a card royal or a gold WILD plaque. Every so often, it carries Thor’s hammer, two positions wide, and every symbol on the reels underneath goes wild at once. That row is what separates this Pragmatic Play slot from the studio’s other Megaways builds.

Features and Bonus Rounds

The Hammer and the Top Row

Power of Thor Megaways screen with a WILD on the top row above reel 5 and 2400 Megaways on the counter
A single gold WILD on the independent top row above reel 5, 2,400 ways live on the counter, and the Buy Free Spins plaque at $200, with nothing paying on the grid below it.

The HAMMER spans two horizontal positions and appears only on the top strip above reels 2 to 5. When it lands fully in view, every symbol on the reels beneath it becomes wild for the following evaluation. A tumble can shift the HAMMER sideways, turning the reels beneath its new position wild as well. If the HAMMER is not fully visible, it has no effect. It can move more than once during a tumble sequence, allowing a single spin to turn different reels wild multiple times. The gold WILD plaque also appears on the top strip and substitutes for every symbol except the scatter and the HAMMER, in both the base game and free spins.

Tumbles and the Rising Multiplier

Winning symbols clear after every spin, the survivors fall, and new symbols of the same size fill the gaps until nothing more pays. In standard play, that is all the tumble does. Inside the free spins, a win multiplier opens at 1x and climbs by 1x on every tumble, and nothing resets it before the round ends. The game multiplies each tumble’s total by whatever the counter has reached, so the fifth tumble of a chain is worth several times the first.

Free Spins and the THOR Ladder

Scatters carry a letter each, and four or more anywhere on the grid spell THOR to open the round. 4 scatters award 10 free spins, 5 award 14, 6 award 18, 7 award 22, 8 award 26, and 9 award 30.

3 scatters during the round add 4 more spins. Scatters land at any size the reel allows, so a tall reel 1 can carry two letters on its own. A separate strip set is used for the round, and the hammer stays live throughout.

The Gamble Wheel

Before the round starts, a wheel offers a step up. With 10 to 18 free spins won, you can spin for 4 more or collect and begin. The win chances shown on the wheel are 62.81% at the first step, 70.39% at the second, and 75.02% at the third, and the step-up stops at 22 free spins. A losing spin gives up every free spin won. Collecting is available at any moment, so anyone happy with the spins already banked can skip it. Rounds of 26 or 30 spins skip it entirely.

The Buy Plaque

A BUY FREE SPINS plaque sits to the left of the grid at 100x the total bet. Buying drops a random number of scatters and awards 10 to 22 free spins, and a bought round goes to the same wheel as one that triggered on the reels. The price doesn’t move whether the buy lands the short round or the long one.

How to Play

Reel Heights and the Live Ways Counter

The counter above the reels reads a different number on almost every spin, because reels 1 and 6 can arrive at any height up to 7 symbols and reels 2 to 5 at any height up to 6. Multiply the six heights together, and you have that spin’s ways; the most the game can build is 117,649. Symbols that land stretched across two or three positions keep a reel short, so the counter swings widely from one spin to the next.

The top row never enters that sum. It runs above reels 2 to 5 as a separate strip, moving right to left while the six main reels drop, so the symbol above a given reel changes independently of what lands beneath it. That is the part of the layout with no equivalent on the studio’s other Megaways titles.

Demo Paytable

Thor is the only symbol that pays for two of a kind, and the four character premiums are the only symbols worth a long chain. The six royals run from 9 to Ace in a narrow band, which puts the weight on the length of a tumble sequence rather than any one hit. The figures below are the cash awards at the demo’s $2.00 spin, and each one moves with the stake.

Symbol 2 3 4 5 6
Thor $1.00 $2.00 $10.00 $20.00 $40.00
Blue viking – $1.00 $4.00 $5.00 $10.00
Green dwarf – $1.00 $2.00 $3.00 $5.00
Shieldmaiden – $0.50 $1.00 $1.50 $4.00
Ace – $0.40 $0.80 $1.20 $3.00
King – $0.40 $0.80 $1.00 $2.50
Queen – $0.30 $0.50 $1.00 $2.00
Jack – $0.30 $0.50 $1.00 $1.80
10 – $0.20 $0.40 $0.80 $1.60
9 – $0.20 $0.40 $0.80 $1.20

Thor six of a kind returns 20 times the spin, the largest single combination the table offers before any multiplier.

Bet Range and Return to Player

Stakes run from $0.20 to $240.00 per spin, and there is no ante setting and no super-spin mode to lift that upper figure. The RTP on the standard setting is 96.55%. Coin value and bet multiplier are set separately in the bet menu, and the buy plaque takes its price from the total of the two.

The game carries a MEDIUM volatility label, while the studio’s launch copy describes it as high volatility. Ultimately, the free spins round tips the balance, and our review sides with the studio’s high-volatility rating.

Ultimate Slots Verdict

Power of Thor Megaways earns its rating on the top row and the round it feeds. The hammer turns whole reels wild without warning, the free spins multiplier keeps building for as long as the tumbles keep coming, and the bought version returns more than the standard one, which is rare from this studio. Operators can also run the game at 95.81% or 94.77%, so the figure in front of you depends on where you find it. The maximum is modest for the format, and that is the one thing holding this back from a higher score.

4/5 Excellent

✓ What We Like

  • The Hammer turns every symbol on the reels below it wild, and a tumble can move it and fire it a second time inside one spin
  • The free spins multiplier adds 1x on every tumble and never drops back before the round ends
  • The bought round returns more than standard play, which is the opposite of the usual arrangement

✗ What Could Be Better

  • The maximum payout is modest against the way count the format offers
  • The reels between features can be quiet for a long time, with only the odd top-row wild to break it up
  • Losing the gamble wheel costs every free spin won, with no partial collect once the wheel turns

Detailed Review

Our Power of Thor Megaways Experience

Four out of five, and the reason is the gap between the game’s two return settings. Buying the round returns 96.97%, above the standard setting, and that is the wrong way round for a bought feature. The priced version usually returns a little less than waiting for the scatters, so a studio pointing the difference the other way is saying where it thinks the value is.

The multiplier is what that price buys. A bought round starts the climb straight away, and what the last few spins are worth depends entirely on how many tumbles the earlier ones produced. Nothing about the round is front-loaded, so a short trigger can still finish well.

The hammer is the other half of the case. Two positions wide on the top strip, it can turn four reels wild inside a single evaluation, and because a tumble can shift it, one landing can do that more than once. Outside the feature, that produces the occasional outsized win from a screen that looked dead. Inside the round, with the multiplier already climbing, it is the swing that decides how the spins finish.

The wheel before the round is the one decision the game asks you to make, and it is a real one. Each step trades a round you already have for a longer one you might not get, and the odds are on the board rather than hidden, which is more than most gambling features offer. Collecting on 10 spins is defensible when the multiplier is doing the work anyway; so is taking the third step when the wheel shows its best number.

Free spins gamble screen with a green and brown wheel, the current 14 spins up for a coin-flip toward a longer round or a safe collect.
One gamble won, 14 spins in hand and two rungs still above, the next step trading a sure 14 for a shot at more.

The case against is the maximum. Set the top payout against a way count this large, and it is the leanest pairing on the studio’s Megaways shelf, so the reward for a perfect round is smaller than the format implies. The table backs that up. Thor aside, the premiums are close together and the royals closer still, so standard play can run a long stretch on nothing but the odd top-row wild. This is a 2021 release, and Pragmatic Play has not put the top row on anything since.

Against its engine stablemates, the difference is that strip. The Dog House Megaways and Buffalo King Megaways both put their multiplier on wild symbols inside the round, and neither carries anything that can turn four reels wild in the middle of a tumble.

Frequently Asked Questions

It turns every symbol on the reels below it into a wild. The hammer takes two positions on the top strip and only counts when both are fully visible, and if a tumble shifts it to a new position, the reels under the new spot turn wild as well. It never pays anything itself.
No. It opens at 1x, gains 1x with every tumble, and keeps its value until the round ends. A chain on the last free spin therefore pays at whatever the counter has reached, not at the level it started from.
Losing the wheel gives up every free spin won, and the round ends before it begins. Collecting is available at any point before the wheel turns, so the gamble is optional, and Power of Thor Megaways stops the step-up at 22 free spins however many times you win it.
Thor is the single premium with a two-of-a-kind tier, which is unusual on a Megaways grid where three matching symbols is normally the minimum. The pay is small, and its job is to keep the reels ticking over between features rather than to build a round on its own.
The round stops there. The limit is 5,000x the bet, and when a free spins round reaches it, the game pays the win and drops any free spins still to come. The same rule covers a single spin and its tumbles in standard play.
Yes. A bought round drops a random number of scatters and awards between 10 and 22 free spins, and those spins go to the same wheel as a round that triggered on the reels.
