xWays

xWays is one of Nolimit City’s most structurally inventive proprietary features. Most symbols take up a fixed number of positions on the reel. One position per symbol, evaluated once. An xWays symbol occupies a single position but reveals multiple symbols simultaneously when it lands, multiplying the number of ways to win on that reel without physically expanding the grid. The reel stays the same height. The ways count changes because the symbol itself is doing more work than a single position normally does.

When an xWays symbol lands, it reveals between two and a set maximum number of random symbols stacked within that one position. Each revealed symbol counts independently toward wins, which means a single xWays landing can dramatically increase the total ways available on that spin. On a ways-to-win game, where win count is calculated by multiplying the number of matching symbols across adjacent reels, a high-value xWays reveal on a central reel can compound the ways available across the entire combination. The feature is most commonly found in Nolimit City’s higher-end releases, often appearing alongside other proprietary features like xBomb or the Nolimit Booster.

Does xWays only reveal one symbol type per landing?

Yes. When an xWays symbol lands, all positions it reveals show the same symbol. The multiplied positions are identical rather than a mix of different symbols. This is what makes it effective in a ways-to-win format, since multiple identical symbols on one reel combine cleanly with matching symbols on adjacent reels to multiply the ways count. If it revealed different symbol types within the same xWays position, the combination logic would be considerably more complex.

How does xWays interact with the ways-to-win count?

In a standard ways-to-win game, the number of ways is calculated by multiplying the count of matching symbols on each reel across a combination. An xWays symbol revealing four positions on a reel effectively treats that reel as if it has four matching symbols in play for that spin. If the adjacent reels also carry multiple matching positions through their own xWays or standard symbols, the resulting ways count can reach multiples far beyond what the base grid dimensions would normally support.

Is xWays the same as Megaways?

They produce a similar effect but work differently. Megaways reshapes the entire grid on every spin, randomising how many symbols appear on each reel so the total ways count fluctuates constantly as a default property of the game. xWays leaves the grid at a fixed height and only changes the effective ways count when an xWays symbol actually lands, multiplying ways locally at that reel position. Megaways is grid-wide and always active. xWays is symbol-triggered and positional.
