JDB Gaming’s Kong Demo

Kong opening screen with a roaring purple gorilla, an erupting volcano and a 72X multiplier label
The purple gorilla roars with a fist raised before an erupting volcano, a large purple 72X at the centre of the multiplier labels with 18X and 6X to its left

Five volcanoes start Kong’s free spins at a 3x multiplier, and ten start them at 72x, as long as at least one lands on each reel. Between those come 6x, 9x, 18x, and 36x, and that six-step ladder is the one table to learn before anything else in the Kong demo. The game counts the volcanoes once, in the spin that opens the bonus, and a retrigger later in the round does not change the multiplier.

The reels open on a tropical island. A hazy grey-blue volcano rises behind the sea with a small cloud at its summit, jungle fills the middle distance, and palm trees frame the screen from both sides. KONG is spelled out in orange cracked-stone letters on a round carved medallion trimmed with green leaves, with 243WAYS in gold to its left. Below, a stone-framed 5×3 grid holds the cast of this adventure slot: a chest spilling blue and purple gems, a red-haired archaeologist in a pith hat, a brass compass on a teal map, green binoculars with gold rims, and A, K, Q, and J in cracked stone that fades from orange-red to blue-grey.

Slot Features

Kong reels with gold-framed volcano scatters on reels 1 to 4 and letters on reel 5
Reels 1 to 4 each show a gold-framed volcano while reel 5 shows J, J and Q, one volcano short of free spins at 3x

Volcano Count Multiplier

An orange-brown peak in a carved gold frame, glowing yellow behind its summit and set with small red gems at the lower corners, is the scatter. It appears on all reels, and it is the reason Kong counts as a volcano game as much as an ape one. When at least one volcano lands on each of the five reels, the bonus round starts with 13 free spins and a multiplier set by how many volcanoes are on screen in that spin. Any row of a reel qualifies it.

Volcanoes in the triggering spin Bonus multiplier
5 3x
6 6x
7 9x
8 18x
9 36x
10 72x

The steps widen as the count climbs. A count above five means at least one reel shows two or more volcanoes, since the trigger already needs one on each. During the bonus, the game multiplies wins by the figure from this table and then adds them to the win meter. The opening screen shows the same ladder, with 72X in large purple type at the centre and the smaller steps to either side, so the top multiplier is the number a player meets before any reel turns.

Thirteen Free Spins

The bonus swaps the daytime island for a red-orange sky and an erupting volcano streaked with lava, and the multiplier appears in pink-red on a carved gold semicircle. A counter opens at FREE SPIN 0 OF 13, because a trigger awards 13 free spins. During the round, the same condition works again, and at least one volcano on each reel adds another 13, up to a maximum of 100 free spins. A retrigger does not change the bonus multiplier, so a round that opens at 6x is still at 6x when the hundredth spin lands.

Gorilla Wild

The gorilla is the Wild, a purple-blue head with a furrowed brow and a closed-mouth scowl, gold-yellow WILD lettering across the bottom and no tile behind him. He lands on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 and never on reel 1, and he can stand in for the pictures and letters, though not for the volcano. The paytable gives him no row of his own, so his value comes from completing ways that a picture or letter has already started on the leftmost reel.

Outside the volcano round, Kong is a 243-ways game with eight paying symbols and one Wild, which keeps free play easy to read. Wins come from the table under How to Play, and once the bonus starts, the volcano count from the opening spin is the figure that decides what each of those wins is worth.

How to Play

RTP

For RTP, JDB lists Kong’s return at 95.89%. Every value in the table below is stated against the total bet, and during free spins the bonus multiplier from the volcano count multiplies whatever they pay. That makes the paytable the base for both halves of the game.

Ways From Reel One

Kong has no paylines to choose. With 243 ways, a symbol pays when copies of it connect across neighbouring reels counted from the leftmost reel, in any row of each reel, and each way pays once, at its highest combination. Rows do not have to line up, so a chest at the top of reel 1 connects with a chest at the bottom of reel 2. Three adjacent reels from reel 1 make the shortest win the table lists.

Reel 1 never shows the gorilla, so a winning way always begins with the symbol itself on that reel. From reel 2 onward, the Wild can fill a gap for anything except the volcano, which makes reels 2 to 5 more forgiving than reel 1.

The volcano stays outside the ways altogether. It appears on all reels, no value appears for it in the paytable, and it plays no part in the pays that run from left to right. What it does is count toward the trigger, so each spin is really two readings. Start at reel 1 for the ways, then check whether all five reels show at least one volcano, and if they do, count every volcano on the grid to find the multiplier.

Game Paytable

The four pictures outpay every letter at every count, from the chest at the top down to the binoculars, and the four letters bunch together beneath them. Values are per way. Three of a kind pays between 0.17x for J and 1.33x for the chest, while five of a kind ranges from 2.33x to 8.33x, so the rows spread furthest at the top count. The chest and the archaeologist are the only rows that reach 1x or more for three.

Symbol 3 4 5
Treasure chest 1.33x 3.33x 8.33x
Archaeologist 1x 2.67x 6.67x
Compass 0.83x 2x 5.83x
Binoculars 0.67x 1.67x 5x
A 0.33x 0.67x 3.33x
K 0.27x 0.5x 3x
Q 0.2x 0.4x 2.67x
J 0.17x 0.33x 2.33x

Neither the gorilla nor the volcano appears in the table.

Ultimate Slots Verdict

Kong's defining feature is the volcano count. At least one volcano on each reel starts 13 free spins, and the five to ten volcanoes in that spin fix a multiplier from 3x to 72x that a retrigger does not change. That gives a modest 243-ways game a bonus whose value is settled the moment it opens, which makes every trigger easy to judge at a glance. Around it, the paytable is ordinary, the Wild never reaches reel 1, and the trigger needs all five reels at once. One strong rule on an ordinary frame earns 3.4/5.

Detailed Review

Kong Demo Review

Two gorilla slots on this site reach their extras in opposite ways. In Rico Gorila, the Respin Feature can activate during any standard spin, locking reels one and three to the same symbols. Kong’s way in is the volcano trigger, with at least one on each reel. The reward is a bonus whose multiplier is priced on the spot, from 3x for five volcanoes to 72x for ten, and that is why this review comes down on Kong’s side of the comparison.

The purple gorilla gets his best moment on the opening screen, roaring with a fist raised in front of an erupting volcano while gold coins fly past against an orange-purple sky. On the reels, he shrinks to a scowling head, which still stands out against the framed tiles because he has none. The red-haired archaeologist and the gem-heavy chest are cleanly drawn, and the cracked-stone letters suit the island without pulling the eye away from the pictures.

The weak side is everything around that one rule. Outside free spins, Kong is a plain 243-ways game whose best combination, five chests on a way, stays in single figures, and the trigger asks for a volcano on all five reels in the same spin. Four volcanoes with the fifth reel full of letters is the frame that stings most here, and it pays nothing. It is easy to read a frame like that as a sign the next spin is close, and it is not one. 16,800x is the largest win JDB gives for Kong, a 2020 release, a figure far above anything a single way pays in the table.

Kong is a plain ways game lifted by one well-made rule, and that rule alone is worth its 3.4.
