The Book of 99 Demo
The 99 in Book of 99 means two things. In this Book of 99 demo, the rules set the return to player at 99.00%, and a meter beside the reels adds 1 for each Wild that appears during the main game until it reaches 99 and awards 10 Free Spins, played at the weighted average of the bets you collected at.
Relax Gaming released the slot in May 2021, with 10 fixed lines on a 5×3 grid. It is set in the ancient Greece of temples and cyclopes, with a grey stone temple front around the reels, fluted columns, an Ionic capital on the right, and pine trees and water under a dusk-blue sky.
Gameplay Options
The Book Wild
The book itself is closed and orange-red, with gold corners, a red ribbon bookmark, and a gold lightning-style 99 on the cover. It can take the place of any other symbol apart from the special expanding symbol in Free Spins, and the paytable lists no win for it.
The book does two more jobs. Land 3 or more Wilds anywhere in a spin, and 10 Free Spins start at the bet size used in the triggering spin. Each Wild that appears during the main game also moves the meter up by 1. The rules name no scatter, so the Wild is the trigger as well.
The Collection

The meter is a stone map panel to the left of the reels. Place names show in part as THAKA and MAKEDON, a white meander path climbs to a white circle reading 99, and a small boat at the bottom has a red box with the count.
The count starts at 0. Each main-game Wild adds 1, and at 99 the meter awards 10 Free Spins and resets. Wilds collected past 99 are kept, and the remaining ones start the next count.
Free Spins from a full meter don’t use your current bet. They play at the weighted average of the bets you had on when each Wild was collected. That average has to be a whole multiple of the minimum bet, and when it isn’t, the game rounds it up or down by stochastic rounding. Collect most of the 99 at a low bet, and the round plays close to that low bet even if you raise the stake just before the meter fills.
Both routes can arrive together. When 3 or more Wilds land on the spin that completes the meter, the Wild-triggered Free Spins play first, followed by the collection-triggered ones.
Free Spins
Each trigger awards 10 spins. At the start, one of the 9 regular symbols is randomly chosen as the special symbol for the whole round. The pool covers the A, K, Q, J, and 10 as well as the four characters.
Those characters are a young man with swept-back black hair and a gold laurel wreath, a blonde woman under a purple hood, a bald cyclops with a single red eye in the middle of the forehead, and a harpy-like figure with white mask paint across the eyes and purple feathered shoulders.
Each free spin pays its normal line wins first. Then, if enough of the randomly chosen symbol land (2 for high paying symbols and 3 for low paying symbols), they expand to cover their whole reels and pay on all 10 lines, whatever their horizontal position. Wilds are disregarded for that expanded payout, so a book on the reels adds nothing to it.
Land 3 or more Wilds anywhere in a free spin, and the round gets an additional 10 spins. The rules describe no other bonus game, and the demo has no buy feature, so this round is the whole of the bonus side.
How to Play
The Exception
Line wins count from the leftmost reel along 10 fixed lines, and all 10 are active on each spin. Each line pays its highest combination, and the game totals the wins across all 10.
Free Spins bring the one exception. Once enough of the special symbol land to expand (2 of a high paying symbol, 3 of a low one), it pays on each line even if the symbols are not connected from left to right, so two expanded reels with a gap between them still pay. Expanded symbols pay from the rows in the table below, by how many of them landed. The book Wild replaces any symbol except that special expanding symbol.
There is no buy feature. Free Spins come from 3 or more Wilds in one spin or from a full meter, and those two routes can set different bets. The Wild route plays at the triggering spin’s bet, and the meter route at the collected average.
Slot RTP and Stakes
When the meter fills, the spins play at the weighted average of the bets you used while collecting, wherever those bets fell in Relax’s €0.10 to €100 range. The RTP is 99.00%.
Demo Symbol Pays
The four characters pay from two of a kind, and the A, K, Q, J and 10 from three. The book Wild has no row.

Ultimate Slots Verdict
Book of 99 scores 3.7/5. The 99.00% return and the collection meter, fed by main-game Wilds and paid at a weighted-average bet, are the reasons to try it. Against them, each trigger brings the same 10 spins with one randomly chosen expanding symbol, there is no buy, and the rules state no top win.
✓ What We Like
- Collection Free Spins give main-game Wilds a second use, since each one adds 1 to the 99-step meter and the remaining Wilds carry over.
- The 99.00% return is well above the 96.10% Money Train 3 pays in its main game.
- A character picked as the special symbol needs just 2 on the reels to expand, then pays on all 10 lines with Wilds disregarded.
- The weighted-average bet, rounded to a whole multiple of the minimum bet, stops a meter filled at a low stake from playing at a high one.
✗ What Could Be Better
- Each trigger brings 10 spins with one randomly chosen special symbol, and the rules describe no other bonus game.
- An A, K, Q, J or 10 picked as the special symbol needs 3 on the reels to expand and pays from the low end of the table.
- The in-game rules state no top win, so the figure comes from Relax rather than the game.
Detailed Review
Book of 99 Demo Review
A 99.00% RTP is the headline, and it is a big one. Relax’s own Money Train 3 returns 96.10% in its main game. In this review, that return is what Book of 99 is selling, and the slot around it is kept narrow.
The meter is the smart part. Each Wild that appears during the main game counts toward 99, and the remaining Wilds carry over once it fills, so no main-game Wild goes to waste. The weighted-average bet keeps it honest in both directions. Fill most of the meter at the minimum and raise the stake for the last few Wilds, and the average moves only by their share of the 99.
The cost is range. Each trigger gives the same 10 spins with one randomly chosen special symbol, and there is no buy and no second bonus. What changes from round to round is the symbol the game picks, and an A, K, Q, J or 10 needs 3 to expand where a character needs 2. Five of the 9 possible picks are those low symbols, and their rows for five are 10x and 15x.
The best case for the round is at the top of the table. If the laurel-wreathed man is the random pick, the special symbol is the 500x entry for five, it needs just 2 to expand, and Wilds are disregarded for that payout. Relax puts the top win at 5,000x the bet, and the in-game rules state no figure of their own.
The count is on screen beside the reels, and a number climbing toward 99 is a strong reason to keep spinning. That pull is easy to notice in free play. The meter is also the best art in the game, a boat at the foot of a map path that ends in a circle reading 99.
A high return on a plain book round. For a book slot, that is a fair trade, and not much more.
