Age of the Gods Slot Overview

Age of the Gods gave its name to a Playtech slot series, yet it wasn’t the game that opened it. The studio’s announcement of the series led with Age of the Gods: King of Olympus and listed this title among the games due later in the year. What the namesake brought was a bonus of its own, a screen of 20 coins that comes back reset after each round of free games until Hades is revealed. The 20 lines are plain; the variety comes after the coins. You can try it here in free play.
Features in the Demo

The 20-Coin Pick
Three or more Age of the Gods logo scatters anywhere during the main game open the Age of the Gods Bonus, though scatters won’t trigger it during free games. Twenty gold-rimmed coins fill the screen, and each one you pick turns over to show a god. Match 3 of the same god, and that god’s free games begin. The Hades coin, a white-haired face set in red-orange, is the one to avoid, because revealing it ends the feature.
The coins don’t go away when a mode finishes. Once a god’s free games end, the bonus screen comes back reset, and more free games modes can be won from it. One trigger can therefore lead to more than one god in a row, and the feature keeps going until a Hades coin turns over. The four Power jackpots above the reels are real-money prizes, and their panels show Not Available when you play for fun.
God Modes
There are four god modes. The Athena, Zeus, and Poseidon modes are 9 free games each, and none of them can be retriggered. What changes from one god to the next is a single feature.
| God | Free games | What the mode does |
|---|---|---|
| Athena | 9 | A random win multiplier from x2 to x5 on each free games spin |
| Zeus | 9 | Starts at x1 and adds +1 every 3 spins; a Wild is locked in the middle position of reel 3 |
| Poseidon | 9 | May change up to 5 symbols into trident Wilds on any free games spin |
| Hercules | 9 | A stacked Wild on reel 3 |
Athena’s multiplier is drawn at random for each spin, so it can be x2 on one spin and x5 on the following one. Zeus multiplies all wins from a spin by the value in force during that spin, and his Wild, locked in the middle of reel 3, covers every symbol apart from the scatter. Reel 3 is the focus of his mode, as it is in the free games of Fire Blaze: Red Wizard, where a Wild landing there takes a random 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x. Poseidon’s lightning can also strike Wilds already showing, and a scatter pays before the lightning hits it. The trident Wilds he may create, on up to 5 symbols a spin, substitute for all symbols except the scatter, just like the regular Wild.
Pantheon of Power
Line up Athena, Zeus, Poseidon, Hercules, and Aphrodite in any order on an active payline, and the game pays a special mixed win of 200x the line bet, which is 10x the total bet. It’s a main game award only. Unlike the god pays in the table, which need 3 or more of one god from the leftmost reel, it mixes five different portraits. The white-haired god in the purple frame isn’t among the five.
How to Play
Left-to-Right Lines
Two Wilds on a line already pay in Age of the Gods, and the Wild is the only symbol in the paytable with a 2-of-a-kind award. Every god, the helmet, and the three letters need at least 3 matching from the leftmost reel.
All 20 lines are fixed and always in play, with the paytable drawing each as a numbered diagram. Wins read left to right from the first reel, and a line with two combinations on it pays the bigger one. The logo scatter is the exception, since it pays in any position. The Wild substitutes for all symbols except that scatter.
In free games, extra Wilds can join the lines. Zeus locks one in the middle of reel 3, and Poseidon may change up to 5 symbols into trident Wilds on a spin.
A round outside the bonus is short. The reels spin, line and scatter wins pay out, and 3 or more scatters send you to the coin screen. Once a Hades pick ends the feature, the game returns you to the 20 lines. The Pantheon of Power is the one line award that ignores order, paying when all five named gods share an active payline in any order.
RTP
The return to player is set at 95.02%. The game quotes its pays in line bets, so the table below converts them to multiples of the total bet across all 20 lines; the Pantheon’s 200x line bet becomes 10x on that scale. Every multiple on this page, from 0.6x for three letters to 500x for five Wilds, uses the same total-bet scale.
Payouts
This is an Ancient Greece slot that pays 500x for five Wilds, while Athena, the best-paying god, returns 50x for five. Below her, Zeus and Poseidon pay 25x, Hercules 20x, and the letters 7.5x. Aphrodite and the white-haired god share a row at 15x for five, and the Spartan helmet is next at 12.5x.
| Symbol | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wild | 500x | 150x | 20x | 2.5x |
| Athena | 50x | 12.5x | 3x | – |
| Zeus | 25x | 7.5x | 2x | – |
| Poseidon | 25x | 7.5x | 2x | – |
| Hercules | 20x | 6.25x | 1.5x | – |
| White-haired god | 15x | 5x | 1.25x | – |
| Aphrodite | 15x | 5x | 1.25x | – |
| Spartan helmet | 12.5x | 3.75x | 1x | – |
| Ω, K, Λ | 7.5x | 2.5x | 0.6x | – |
| Pantheon of Power (5 gods, any order) | 10x | – | – | – |
Ultimate Slots Verdict
The main game is ordinary, 20 fixed lines with a Wild that pays from two and a 10x Pantheon of Power for all five named gods in any order.
The bonus redeems it. Three or more main game scatters open a 20-coin pick, matching 3 of a god starts 9 free games, and the screen resets after each mode until Hades ends it. Athena, Zeus, and Poseidon each play by a different feature, though a mode cannot be retriggered.
Hits What we like

Misses What could be better
- Athena, Zeus, and Poseidon free games cannot be retriggered.

Detailed Review
Reviewing Playtech’s Age of the Gods
Each god gets a framed portrait in a colour of its own. Athena has long red-auburn hair under a gold-and-red headpiece, Zeus wears a gold crown with blue lightning behind him, Poseidon stands in teal fish-scale armour with a gold trident, and Hercules wears a lion’s head and mane as a headdress. Aphrodite, golden-blonde in a red-pink dress, and a white-haired god in a purple frame complete the portraits. Athena, Zeus, Poseidon and Hercules return on the pick coins, so you can tell whose free games you’re closing in on before the third match.
Between bonuses, this is an ordinary 20-line game. The Wild’s 2-of-a-kind pay and a 10x Pantheon of Power for all five gods in any order are its main twists, and neither changes much. The pick is the game’s strength. A single trigger opens 20 coins, and because the screen comes back reset after each mode, one trigger can run through more than one god. Hades decides when it stops, which gives every pick after a finished mode more weight than any main game spin. Each match of 3 also settles which mode comes next, so you watch the choice between Athena’s multipliers, Zeus’s build, Poseidon’s lightning, and Hercules’ stacked Wild narrow one coin at a time.
Age of the Gods arrived in 2016 and went on to lend its name to a long series, with later entries such as God of Storms and Wonder Warriors. The pick format has stayed in the studio’s range too. In Oink Oink Oink, the Grunt bonus is a pick that runs until three labels match. Here, a match is only the start.
The modes Playtech gave the pick feel different from one another. Athena’s is the most direct, a random x2 to x5 on each spin. Zeus’s builds from x1 with +1 every 3 spins and keeps a Wild locked in the middle of reel 3, so its strongest multipliers come in the later spins. Poseidon’s may change up to 5 symbols into trident Wilds on a spin, which makes it the least predictable to watch. None can be retriggered. A Hades coin can be the first pick after a mode that paid well, and the whole feature closes on one click.
Players who enjoy a bonus with choices on screen and a running sense of how far it could go will find that here. Anyone after a busy main game will find 20 plain lines and little else between triggers. The pick is strong enough to carry that trade, and it’s the reason the rating reaches 4.0.
